No voter suppression
I am writing in response to Jamie Stiehm's recent column on the federal voting rights bill. She would have you believe that our democracy is in peril due to voter suppression if this bill isn't passed. At the present time, 35 states require proof of ID to vote, including "Blue" states such as Washington, Colorado, Michigan, Connecticut and even President Biden's home state of Delaware.
What Ms. Stiehm and many other liberal commentators fail to note in their pleas for this bill is that it does away with voter ID and "ballot harvesting," both recipes for voter fraud.
We have many other rights that require proof of ID, including, but not limited to, driving a car, purchasing alcohol, or flying on a commercial airline. To insist that voters are not capable of obtaining an ID is insinuating that they are really too stupid to vote.
Furthermore, to suggest that there is voter suppression is ridiculous when more Americans voted in the 2020 elections than any other time in history.
It's also noteworthy that the recent voting legislation that was passed in Georgia is virtually identical to the law that exists in Colorado. President Biden and other liberals claimed that this law was draconian, while ignoring the fact that it was similar to voting laws in other states controlled by Democrats.
It's time that the true and complete facts of the proposed voting rights bill are presented.
