Angels LHP C.J. Wilson out a few days with shoulder pain

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Los Angeles Angels left-hander C.J. Wilson will be shut down for a few days with tendinitis in his throwing shoulder, a setback in his return from elbow surgery.

Wilson experienced pain before a Saturday bullpen session and underwent an MRI on Monday. Manager Mike Scioscia said he's relieved it wasn't something worse, and Wilson believes he can still be ready for the start of the regular season.

"Like, last year, remember, I tweaked my knee and I still started on time, still threw 100-some pitches in my first start of the season," Wilson said Tuesday.

The 35-year-old Wilson had bone spurs and chips removed from his elbow in August, the fourth procedure he's had on his left elbow.

"Different parts of your body that are affected differently by the rehab process, the ramping of it up," Wilson said. "It's a fairly normal thing for guys to have, tendinitis or dead arm or something like that during this phase of the year."

Wilson went 8-8 with a 3.89 ERA in 21 starts last season.
