State human services agency plans move to Springfield site

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - The Illinois Department of Human Services will move some of its operations into a four-building complex on Springfield's southeast side.

The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports (http://bit.ly/1T1Cnoy ) state officials expect as many as 450 employees to punch the clock at Iles Park Place after a $7.2 million upgrade planned this spring.

Developer Chris Stone of Springfield Partners says the buildings will be turned over to the Human Services Department by June. The developers plan to turn the fifth building into more office space with a retail center.

The Illinois State Police vacated the complex in about 2007 when that department consolidated in a former insurance company building in the downtown.

Stone says his group has a five-year lease agreement with the state with a five-year renewal option.
