Lincoln College to renovate historic site with $1 Mil gift

LINCOLN, Ill. (AP) - A private Illinois college is receiving a $1 million gift to renovate one of its historic buildings.

The Herald and Review (http://bit.ly/1MpUlPr) reports Lincoln College graduate and former trustee Wallace "Pat" Carroll made the donation to renovate University Hall in memory of former school president Jack D. Nutt.

The first phase of the $2.6 million project is scheduled for this summer.

Renovations include an elevator to access second floor classrooms, electrical upgrades and stairway repairs.

Carroll says he wanted to honor the late administrator and educator and support the current president's vision for the future of the school. The first floor of the building will be renamed after Nutt.

University Hall was Lincoln's first permanent structure when it was founded in 1865. The building is a nationally registered historic location.
