Kincaid Mounds plans archaeology field day

BROOKPORT, Ill. (AP) - Visitors to the Kincaid Mounds State Historic Site will be able to view artifacts discovered at the Native American site and hear from experts on the Mississippian culture that lived there during a planned field day.

Kincaid Mounds is planning to hold its archaeology field day on Oct. 22. The event is free and will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The mounds are near the Ohio River in Massac and Pope counties in southern Illinois.

The site is a series of mounds built by the Native Americans who lived there from A.D. 1000 to A.D. 1400.

People are also encouraged to bring their own Native American artifacts for experts to try to identify and explain.
