Girls golf: Conant win regional title

Conant regional: Conant coach Megan Hebert said the Fox Run Golf Course in Elk Grove always plays tough.

But her Cougars were tough enough on Wednesday to come away with its own Class 2A regional championship.

Led by senior Angela Bowers' score of 84, Conant scored a 346 to take first place. Sophomore Michelle Zhang and junior Nimra Syed each added 86s and junior Nimra Syed competed the Cougars' score card with a 90.

Schaumburg also qualified for Monday's Schaumburg sectional at the Schaumburg Golf Club with a score of 378 while Maine South gained the final team spot with a 394.

Completing the field were Niles West (427), Maine West (435), Elk Grove (430) and Taft (520).

"I am really proud of all my girls," Hebert said. "Fox Run always plays tough but they were ready and handled the pressure of a big meet.

"We are thrilled to have a regional championship and are looking forward to seeing what we can do at Schaumburg on Monday."

Leading the Saxons were junior Trinity Corwin (85), junior Jennifer Cappello (91), junior Erykah Walton (100) and Cheyenne Harris (102).

Niles West senior Amanda Lee earned medalist honors with and 83.

Other local qualifiers were Elk Grove senior Amy Carpenter (102), Maine West senior Megan Kalinowski (103), Elk Grove junior Zoe Blomquist (105), Maine West sophomore Clara Cupuro (107), Maine West freshman Anastasia Peric (109) and Elk Grove sophomore Maggie Cronin (113).
