Police investigating shooting of 6-year-old Chicago girl

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago Police say a 6-year-old sitting on a porch with her mother and grandmother was shot in the stomach by a bullet fired a block away.

Spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says the shooting happened in the West Englewood neighborhood on the city's South Side just after 1 p.m. on Tuesday. He says a caravan of vehicles pulled up to a group of people and shots were fired. He says police believe there may have been an exchange of fire between the people in the cars and the group of people on the street.

He says the 6-year-old girl was rushed to Comer Children's Hospital where she was immediately taken into surgery. He says the child remains in surgery.
