Friday night takeaways

Piling up points

Naperville North's offense continued to stay red hot. After scoring 53 points in a Week 1 comeback win, the Huskies - powered by 6 touchdown passes from quarterback Drake Davis - beat Metea Valley 56-37.

Ground and pound

Of the 104 offensive plays in Wheaton North's 27-7 win over Joliet Catholic, 83 were run plays. The Falcons rushed for 272 yards behind linemen Sam Odell, John Willeford, De'Quan Ramsey, J'Kolbi Grant and Logan Meyer.

Thriller

West Chicago broke a five-game losing streak with a 28-26 overtime win over Elgin. The Wildcats tied the game on Luke Seeman's 2-yard fourth-down scoring run, and won it with C.J. Griffin's 2-point pass to Jahleel Humphrey.

Not pretty

Hinsdale Central's 27-21 victory over Willowbrook may have been exciting but it wasn't pretty. In addition to numerous special teams miscues, the West Suburban Conference foes combined for 162 penalty yards.
