Lawyers to discuss settlement in jail suicide lawsuit

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - Lawyers for Delaware County and the family of a man who killed himself in the county jail will meet next month to discuss a settlement of a lawsuit over the death.

Ashley Lee Myers was found hanging by a T-shirt in the jail's intake area on Oct. 24, 2014. The (Muncie) Star-Press reports (http://tspne.ws/1LzjPUt ) the conference is scheduled for March 8.

Myers was jailed on a warrant related to a child-support case. Police say the 31-year-old suspect briefly tried to elude them before he was arrested.

John and Carol Myers represent Ashley Myers' estate. They claim in a federal lawsuit filed last summer that Myers told an intake officer he had ingested heroin and that officers failed to monitor him after he showed suicide risks.
