Leyden recognized for transparent financial reporting

The certificate recognizes districts that have met the ASBO program's high standards for financial reporting and accountability. Leyden earned the Certificate of Excellence for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the 2018 fiscal year.

By participating in the COE program, Leyden demonstrated its commitment to financial transparency. The district submitted its annual financial report to the program for review by a team of professional auditors who provide feedback to improve future documents. If the financial report meets the requirements of the program, the Certificate of Excellence is awarded.

"The COE's mission is to promote and recognize financial reporting, specifically through a district's comprehensive annual financial report," says David Lewis, Executive Director at ASBO International. "The financial report informs stakeholders about the financial and economic state of the district, making it an important communication tool for building trust and engaging with the school community."

District 212 Superintendent Nick Polyak says he is "incredibly proud" of Leyden's fiscal services department for once again earning a Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting. "We have been able to complete massive construction projects and provide over $6 million in property tax relief to our community while still maintaining the highest levels of fiscal transparency," he notes.
