Signs you're having a stroke

Daily Herald staff report

If you suspect someone is having a stroke, remember the acronym FAST to check for the following symptoms:

Face: Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop? Is the smile lopsided?

Arms: Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward? Is one arm numb?

Speech: Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence. Is the person's speech slurred? Can he or she repeat the sentence correctly?

Time: If the person shows any of these symptoms, call 911 immediately and tell the dispatcher you think the person is having a stroke.
