Raises for Des Plaines police command staff in new contract

Ten Des Plaines police sergeants and lieutenants will receive 2.5 percent raises retroactive to Jan. 1, 2015 and Jan. 1, 2016, under terms of a new two-year union contract approved this week.

The old contract expired December 31, 2014. Negotiating teams for the union and city reached a new tentative agreement early this year. The union membership unanimously ratified the deal Feb. 24, and the city council did the same Monday.

Officials say bargaining of a successor agreement will likely begin in the fall. An agreement covering the city's largest police union, including patrol officers and detectives, also expires at the end of 2016.
