Charity overcomes chill of Fox River
Most suburban residents who stepped outdoors Sunday did it to enjoy the warmth and sunshine of an unseasonably pleasant early March day.
Then there were the brave souls at the Broken Oar bar and grill in Port Barrington, who instead plunged into the still-icy waters of the Fox River for the fourth annual Fox River Shiver.
The event, which serves as a fundraiser for Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago, saw dozens of participants - many in costume - plunge into the chilly river for a good cause.
