A higher open for US stocks as earnings impress investors
NEW YORK (AP) - Stocks are turning higher in early trading as investors were encouraged by several strong earnings reports.
Air Transport Services jumped 23 percent early Wednesday after turning in solid results and saying it will operate an air transport network for Amazon.
Pet food company Blue Buffalo jumped 21 percent after also posting strong earnings.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 62 points, or 0.3 percent, to 17,020 as of 9:35 a.m. Eastern time.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index climbed seven points, or 0.3 percent, to 1,985. The Nasdaq composite increased nine points, or 0.2 percent, to 4,657.
Bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 1.87 percent.
