Indianapolis fire station renamed for first black fire chief

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Indianapolis Fire Department renamed one of its stations for the city's first African American fire chief.
WISH -TV reports (http://bit.ly/29ABty0 ) the department's Fire Station 1 was renamed on Saturday in honor of Joseph Kimbrew Sr.
The Indianapolis Black Firefighters Association previously said Kimbrew started with the department in 1955, won a "firefighter of the year" honor in 1968 and became chief in 1987. He later served as a deputy state fire marshal.
Kimbrew was an Indianapolis native and still lived in the city when he died in July 2015 at the age of 86.
