'Pink Out' game to honor Huntley High School teacher
Friday's "Pink Out" football game between Huntley and Crystal Lake South high schools will honor a Huntley High School teacher who died in the fall of 2021 after battling breast cancer.
Huntley High School is teaming up with the Huntley Education Foundation to raise awareness and funds in memory of the late Jennifer Heuck, who served as the physical education department chair. Monies raised will be used to benefit a scholarship in Heuck's name.
The scholarship, which will be awarded by the Education Foundation, will benefit a Hampshire High School student who intends to pursue a career in the education field.
Huntley and Crystal Lake South high schools sold "Pink Out" T-shirts to raise awareness about breast cancer and honor Heuck and other victims of breast cancer. Students and spectators who purchased a T-shirt will receive free admission to Friday's game at Huntley High School. Spectators are encouraged to wear the shirts, or wear pink, to Friday's game in honor of Heuck.
Heuck's daughters, Hannah Blakley and Emma Heuck, are both graduates of Crystal Lake South High School. Members of Heuck's family will be attending Friday's game.
"Mrs. Heuck's impact on our student body and our staff at Huntley High School over the years was tremendous," Huntley Community School District 158 Superintendent Scott Rowe said. "She was a source of strength and inspiration to so many, and I know she would be proud to see her memory celebrated in this way."
