Indiana woman pleads guilty in 12-year-old girl's death

ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) - A central Indiana woman has pleaded guilty in connection with the death of a 12-year-old girl who was fatally injured by a lawnmower.

The (Anderson) Herald Bulletin reports (http://bit.ly/2bJXDi9 ) 46-year-old Denell J. Roberts of Anderson entered guilty pleas Thursday to felony charges of battery and neglect. She was the girl's guardian. The incident happened last October and the girl was taken off life support at a children's hospital about a month later.

Prosecutors say an autopsy found signs of prior physical abuse and ruled the girl died from head injuries.

Defense attorney Bryan Williams said it was in his client's best interest to take the plea agreement as "the evidence developed."

She is to be sentenced Sept. 29. She faces up to 38 years in prison.
