Indiana community beefs up Lake Michigan safety
MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (AP) - An Indiana community plans to beef up safety along Lake Michigan.
The (Munster) Times reports (http://bit.ly/2brlL72 ) Michigan City's lakefront safety committee plans to install 25 life rings along the lakefront. Each one is 100 feet of rope tethered to a ring.
Michigan City Mayor Ron Meer says the rings can be tossed to struggling swimmers if there's an emergency.
The community's lakefront safety committee was created last year after a man drowned.
The safety improvements are being funded through a $13,000 grant from the Arcelor Mittal Foundation.
