3 shot, 1 fatally, in Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indianapolis police say one person is dead and two are injured after gunfire broke out amid a large crowd of people gathered on the city's north side.
Police said in a statement that officers were dispatched around 10:30 p.m. Sunday to a report of shots fired. Officers arrived to find a large crowd dispersing. Local media report hundreds of people were in the area.
Cmdr. Michael Jefferson tells WTHR-TV police believe the shooting stemmed from an argument in the middle of the street. He called it another example of "senseless violence."
One person was pronounced dead at a hospital. The injured victims were in stable condition.
An investigation is ongoing.
