Baseball: Hampshire knocks off Huntley

Hampshire 9, Huntley 8: Hampshire (15-10) defeated Huntley courtesy of a walk off error. The game was tied at eight with Hampshire batting in the bottom of the seventh when an error scored the winning run. Nicholas Sladek had 3 hits in 3 at-bats to lead the offense for the Whip-Purs. Anthony Dimarzio was credited with the victory in ⅔ innings of relief. Christian Kasal took the loss for Huntley (22-8). Kyle Maurer went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Red Raiders in hits.

Jacobs 11, Cary-Grove 2: Jacobs scored 5 runs in the sixth inning en route to a blowout victory, led by Christian Scianna, Kyle Washington, Max Bieawski, and Andrew Balkom who each had RBI in the frame. Balkom was credited with the victory for the Golden Eagles, surrendering 2 runs on 5 hits over 6 innings, striking out three.

CL South 10, McHenry 1: The Gators (16-9) tallied 8 hits in the game, with Ben Peltz and Evan Jewson each racking up multiple hits to lead the offensive attack. Beiker Fuentes earned the win for CL South, throwing 7 innings, allowing a run on 3 hits and striking out four.

Kaneland 12, Sycamore 2: Dalton Askew drove in 4 on 2 hits to lead Kaneland past Sycamore, driving in all of his runs on a grand slam in the third. The Knights (20-9) scored 6 runs in the third inning, led by Askew, Nick Ortegel, and Mikey Rogers, who each had RBI in the inning. Angel Acevedo pitched Kaneland to victory, allowing 2 hits and 2 runs over 5 innings, striking out eight.

Elgin Academy 17: Rochelle Zell 3: Elgin Academy grabbed an early lead, scoring on a walk by Derek Warren, a double by CJ Carani, a triple by Christian Rodriguez, a single by Connor Reece, and a double by Murtaza Syed Shah in the first inning. Warren earned the win for the Hilltoppers, lasting 2⅓ innings, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits and striking out three.

Geneva 5, Lake Park 3: Geneva (10-17-1) nabbed the lead late in the game in a victory over Lake Park on Thursday. The game was tied at three with the Vikings batting in the top of the sixth when an error scored a run for Geneva. Ryan Stempowski earned the victory on the mound, surrendering a run on 4 hits over 3 innings, striking out three and walking none. Nick Black led the offense with 3 hits.

Bartlett 14, Elgin 0: The Maroons fell behind early and couldn't come back when Bartlett scored on an error during Blake Oliver's at-bat, a single by Nathan Gargano, an error, a single by Ryan Nelson, a single by Nathan Euliano, and a double by Michael Vaca in the first inning. Vaca was the winning pitcher for Bartlett, lasting 4 innings, allowing no runs on 1 hit, striking out 11 batters and walking one. Eric Damerow took the loss for Elgin (0-24), surrendering 10 runs on 10 hits over 3⅔ innings, striking out two.

Johnsburg 6, Burlington Central 1: Andrew Knowlton took the loss for Burlington Central (16-9), allowing 6 hits and 6 runs over 6 innings, striking out one. Kyle Fischer, Braden Seyller, and Luke Thompson all had multiple hits to lead the offense for the Rockets.

Providence Catholic 6. Marmion 5: The Cadets (7-13) stayed in it until the end, but Providence Catholic pulled away late to steal the win. Marmion collected 7 hits, including two each from Jackson Best, Dillon DiIorio, and Tony Mele. Eric Lundell suffered the loss, allowing 7 hits and 6 runs over 5⅓ innings, striking out five.
