Report: Wheaton family mourning death of puppy killed by pit bull

A Wheaton family is mourning the death of their new puppy after the dog was attacked and killed by a pit bull Monday, NBC 5 News is reporting.

The Rontal family told the station they were walking home from a park when a pit bull ran from its yard and attacked the puppy.

The puppy died after he was rushed to an animal hospital, NBC is reporting.

A neighbor who rushed in to help free the puppy from the pit bull was also bitten, NBC is reporting.

She was treated at a hospital and released.

The Rontal family said they contacted DuPage County Animal Control and the sheriff's office regarding the incident.
