Owen County shelter seeks public support to care for 70 dogs

SPENCER, Ind. (AP) - An Owen County animal shelter is seeking public support to help care for 70 malnourished dogs seized from a rural property.

The (Bloomington) Herald-Times (bit.ly/25e1I4Q ) reports that the county Humane Society hopes to raise $5,000 for medical costs through an online campaign.

The Owen County Sheriff's Department removed the animals, which were infested with fleas and ticks, on Wednesday and Thursday.

The shelter says it has enough food for the additional dogs but is also soliciting donations of cleaning supplies, including bleach and disposable rubber gloves.

Volunteers from other area animal care groups were enlisted to help care for and clean the dogs.
