Girls soccer: Coleman helps Antioch to shutout victory

Courtney Coleman had a goal and 2 assists, and Antioch's girls soccer team did all of its scoring in the first half en route to a 3-0 win over Regina Dominican in a nonconference match Wednesday.

Megan Helgesen and Lauren Slack also scored for the Sequoits (1-3-2), who earned their first win. Keeper Monica Wilhelm earned her first shutout.

Coleman has 3 goals and 3 assists on the season.

Mundelein 1, Lakes 0: The host Mustangs got a second-half goal from Emily Hay, assisted by Nicole Robb, to capture the North Suburban crossover.

Mundelein goalie Lexi Pawlowski made 4 saves in earning the shutout.

Grayslake North 2, Vernon Hills 1: Sydney Paez scored twice unassisted for the host Knights in the nonconference match.

"Our girls produced an effort and result worthy of a lot of pride," coach Adam DeCaluwe said after his Knights improved to 2-1-1. "We have been working to find some consistency, and today we showed that we have that ability. The first half we put VH under high pressure and made it hard for them to get out of their half."

Paez's goal in the 16th minute had Grayslake North up 1-0 at halftime. Vernon Hills (3-2-1) got the equalizer from Lindsey Brettman, before Paez notched the game-winner with just six minutes to go. The junior created a turnover, DeCaluwe said, before hitting a shot from distance that found the far corner of the net.
