Avalon String Quartet in Arlington Heights Sunday

The Northwest Suburban Community Concert Association, in partnership with District 214 Community Education, will feature the Avalon String Quartet in its fourth concert of the 2015-2016 season at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at Forest View Educational Center Theater, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights.

The internationally famous quartet has established itself as one of the country's leading chamber music ensembles. It is quartet-in-residence at the Northern Illinois University School of Music, and members teach individual studios and coach chamber music at the school.

The quartet has performed at venues including the Library of Congress and National Gallery of Art in Washington, Wigmore Hall in London and Herculessaal in Munich. Its live performances and conversations are frequently featured on Chicago fine arts radio station WFMT.

The quartet will perform quartet works by Haydn and Benjamin Britten, but the unusual part of the concert will have pianist Daniel Schlosberg join members for Robert Schumann's "Quintet for Piano, Two Violins and Cello." This is the first piece to make use of these five musical voices in musical conversation.

Tickets are available at the door or through www.nscommunityconcerts.org or District 214 at (847) 718-7702. They are $20, with children through 12th grade free with a paying adult.

The final concert of the season on Sunday, May 15, will feature MacArthur "genius" grant award winner Reginald Robinson presenting a "History of Ragtime." For details, visit www.nscommunityconcerts.org.
