Grayslake history program on canning factories

The Grayslake Historical Society will present a program on the history of three Grayslake canning factories at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, in the Community Room of the Grayslake Heritage Center, 164 Haley St., Grayslake. The factories were on the site that later became home to the now-closed Grayslake Gelatin Co. factory.

The Fisk-Kyle Canning Company operated there from 1904 to 1909 and canned sweet corn grown by the local farmers. In 1910, the factory became the Hohenadel Canning Company and added peas to its operation. The Inderriden Company became owners of the factory in 1916 and eventually stopped canning sweet corn. That canning company in Grayslake ceased operation in 1926.

This program is hosted in conjunction with the food theme at the Grayslake History Museum. The "Food, Family & Tradition: Dining in Grayslake" exhibit details past and present restaurants in the community. The museum is open from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
