Put cellphones down while watching kids

It has been my pleasure to spend many days and evenings in our beautiful Arlington Heights parks this summer with my beautiful grandchildren. I treasure the time I have with them because as we all know time flies.

They are 8, 5 and 2 years old. At each park, there is a sign listing the various rules that must be followed for safety and consideration of others. I have a suggestion for an additional "rule." Let's remind everyone to put their cellphones away while children are in our care.

I have seen accidents and fights occur while the "adult" was busy texting. I understand the value of having a cellphone readily available and turned on, but, please, let's put our attention on the small people we have in front of us.

Believe me when I say they will only be little for a short time. Don't miss the opportunity to play with your children and grandchildren. They want and deserve our undivided attention.
