Sporting tops MLS West with win at NY Red Bulls

HARRISON, New Jersey (AP) - Benny Feilhaber and Dominic Dwyer scored to help Sporting Kansas City win 2-0 at the New York Red Bulls on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Tim Melia made a diving stop of a penalty by Bradley Wright-Phillips.

Dwyer beat two New York defenders on the dribble, then slipped a pass to a streaking Graham Zusi, who crossed to Feilhaber for a far-post goal in the 17th minute.

Dwyer spun around a defender and put away a left-footer, off a throw-in from Saal Abdul-Salaam, from just outside the 6-yard box to make it 2-0 in the 60th.

New York lost despite having 22 shots on goal to 7 by Sporting.

DALLAS 2, SAN JOSE 2

FRISCO, Texas (AP) - San Jose's Victor Bernardez headed in an own goal and Tesho Akindele scored a penalty to help Dallas escape with a draw against San Jose.

Dallas' Fabian Castillo fired a goal-line cross from just outside the 6-yard box and Bernardez, trying to send the ball wide, headed in the equalizing own goal in the 62nd minute.

Alberto Quintero hammered a cross from Quincy Amarikwa into the net to put the Earthquakes up 1-0 in the opening minutes. Ryan Hollingshead drew a foul on Shaun Francis in the box and Akindele's ensuing penalty equalized in the 36th.

Chris Wondolowski slipped behind the Dallas defense and put away a well-played ball from Amarikwa to from just inside the top of the box and gave San Jose a 2-1 advantage nearly 20 minutes later.

D.C. UNITED 4, VANCOUVER 0

WASHINGTON (AP) - Fabian Espindola and Alvaro Saborio each scored twice and D.C. United beat Vancouver to snap a six-game winless streak dating to last season.

Espindola opened the scoring with a putback of Chris Rolfe's saved shot in the 38th minute.

Steve Birnbaum's header of Taylor Kemp's corner bounced off the bar and Espindola put it away from close range to make it 2-0 about nine minutes into the second half. Saborio replaced Espindola in the 79th and added two goals, both on feeds from Luciano Acosta.

MONTREAL 2, COLUMBUS 0

MONTREAL (AP) - Hassoun Camara scored his first goal of the season to help Montreal beat Columbus.

Camara head in Lucas Ontivero's corner in the 48th minute. Kyle Bekker added a goal in the 86th minute.

NEW ENGLAND 1, TORONTO 1

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) - Sebastian Giovinco equalized for Toronto in the 58th minute.

Jozy Altidore slipped behind the defense on a breakaway and dropped the ball to a streaking Giovinco.

Kelyn Rowe scored for New England in the 14th.
