Schwab: Worked as transplant advocate after basketball

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A former Marquette men's basketball assistant who later worked as an advocate for the University of Wisconsin organ donor program has died, 12 years after receiving a double-lung transplant.

University Hospital spokeswoman Lisa Brunette says Trey Schwab passed away Sunday at the Madison facility. He was 50 years old.

Schwab was hired under former Marquette coach Tom Crean after working for the Continental Basketball Association and the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves.

Schwab was diagnosed with an incurable lung disease shortly after arriving at Marquette and two years later underwent a double lung transplant. After recovering, Schwab became an outreach coordinator for the transplant program at University Hospital.

He recently told WITI-TV that he "packed a lot into 50 years" and was fortunate to have had a second chance with his transplant.
