Lake County Health Department reports email breach; says no evidence of stolen data

Lake County officials continue to investigate a security breach identified Nov. 1 in which an unauthorized third party gained access to a health department employee’s email account.

The account included partially de-identified information regarding county residents who may have been part of a disease cluster or outbreak that was investigated by the health department between July 2014 and October 2023.

No evidence of an unauthorized transfer of data in the email account was found, but it can’t be ruled out, officials said.

Information that may have been involved included names, addresses, ZIP codes, dates of birth, phone numbers, email addresses, and diagnosis/condition. However, no Social Security numbers or financial information was included.

Anyone with questions regarding the breach should call the privacy officer toll free at (855) 204-2684.
