Sergio Conceicao named Nantes coach, replaces Rene Girard
NANTES, France (AP) - Former Portugal winger Sergio Conceicao has been named coach of Nantes following the firing of Rene Girard.
Nantes says Conceicao has been given a contract for two seasons.
Girard was fired after a dismal run of five losses and two draws dropped Nantes to 19th place.
Conceicao, who played for FC Porto, Lazio, Parma and Inter Milan, made 56 appearances for Portugal from 1996-2003 - scoring a hat trick against Germany at the 2000 European Championship.
He has coached four Portuguese clubs since 2012, and was in charge of Vitoria Guimaraes last season.
Conceicao will be in the stands for Saturday's home game against Caen, with caretaker coach Philippe Mao in charge for that game.
