LA Galaxy sign USMNT's Gyasi Zardes to multiyear extension

CARSON, Calif. (AP) - Forward Gyasi Zardes has agreed to a multiyear contract extension to remain with the LA Galaxy.

The Galaxy announced the deal Thursday, using targeted allocation money to retain one of Major League Soccer's top young talents.

The 24-year-old Zardes is a Los Angeles-area native and a homegrown player for the Galaxy. He has 26 goals and 10 assists in MLS play since joining the club in 2013, and he was a part of the Galaxy's 2014 MLS Cup championship season.

Zardes also has become a regular for the U.S. national team, making 19 appearances during his debut year in 2015. He had three goals and three assists for the Americans.

The five-time MLS champion Galaxy open their regular season Sunday against D.C. United.
