Tell congressmen to back bill on cancer screening
After my yearly mammogram, my doctor ordered the ABUS ultrasound test. When I called to register for it, I was told the cost would be $300. Medicare has always paid for it in the past. This year, as of January 2023, Medicare is not paying for the ABUS test. If Medicare won't pay for it, neither will your supplemental insurance.
In May 2023 a bill called the Find It Early Act (H. R. 3086) has been introduced in the U.S. House. This bill was introduced in to provide coverage for supplemental screenings for those with greater risk factors for breast cancer, including dense breasts, genetic mutations, and family history. The legislation would require all health insurance plans to cover screening and diagnostic mammograms, breast ultrasounds and MRIs with no cost-sharing.
Now it has been moved to four committees.
In your advocacy efforts, consider calling your congressman or woman. Rep. Jan Schakowsky is a co-sponsor along with Rep. Chuy Garcia. You can thank them.
Consider calling your congressman and telling him or her why you support this bill.
