Remains found in 1999 identified as man who vanished in 1980

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - Skeletal remains found nearly 20 years ago have been identified as those of a Muncie man who vanished in 1980.

Muncie Police Chief Joe Winkle said Monday that DNA tests determined the remains found in 1999 in southern Indiana's Owen County are those of Freddie "Tommy" Faussett Jr.

Faussett was 25 when he was vanished on March 8, 1980. His 1977 Chevy Suburban was found in southern Indiana not long afterward but what happened to Faussett remained a mystery and he was declared legally dead seven years after his disappearance.

Winkle says Faussett's death isn't being investigated as a homicide and there's no sign of foul play.

The Star Press reports relatives told the newspaper in 2005 that Faussett had experienced emotional problems in the weeks before his disappearance.
