St. Mary's Women's Club hosts Victorian Tea

Submitted by Jeanie Illian

On June 25, the Women's Club of St. Mary Parish in Buffalo Grove celebrated its 150th Anniversary at Chevy Chase Country Club with "A Victorian Tea."

To celebrate the occasion, 150 ladies dressed in period and contemporary fashions, decorated and wore hats and brought their favorite tea cups. One of the club's members even had her 1915 Ford Model T antique automobile at the entrance to the country club.

Prizes were given in a variety of categories for the best teatime outfits and hats, ranging from the most authentic to the silliest. A wide variety of theme raffle baskets and a 50/50 cash raffle were awarded. There was also a silent auction.

During the Victorian Lunch, featuring Waldorf salad, quiche, tea sandwiches, mini French pastries and other food of that era, a slideshow featuring SMWC members, events and special moments from the past 150 years was played.

After lunch, Ruth Thomas and Chloe Berg presented a program of Victorian/Edwardian era fashions from 1861-1920.

The chairwomen for the event were Karen Hansen and Mary Jo Howard.
