Benet Academy beats Fremd to repeat as 4A champs

NORMAL, Ill (AP) - Kathleen Doyle poured in 24 points, including 9 in the final five minutes, to propel Lisle Benet Academy past Palatine Fremd 42-39 on Saturday to win its second straight girls 4A championship.

It was a rematch of last year's 4A title match, which Benet (32-3) won 61-39.

Bryana Hopkins scored 18 points and Grace Tworek had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead Fremd (30-3).

Fremd pulled to within one point with 20 seconds left on a Tworek layup, but both Doyle and Elise Stout sank free throws to put Benet up by three. Tworek missed a potential tying three-pointer with two seconds left.

In Friday's semifinals, Benet Academy advanced by beating Trinity 68-51, while Fremd defeated Whitney Young 47-40 in overtime.
