Fire displaces five Naperville residents

A family of five was displaced early Thursday after a house fire on the 900 block of Elm Street in Naperville.

A resident called 911 at 1:04 a.m. and described hearing a loud "boom" seconds before smoke detectors sounded in the home, authorities said.

Firefighters said they chased hot spots through the home for about 20 minutes before bringing the fire under control.

Two adults and three children escaped without injuries, authorities said.

The American Red Cross is providing temporary housing options.

The cause of the fire, which apparently started in the basement, remains under investigation.
