St. Martin's to host charitable Easter egg hunt

On Saturday, March 26, at 1 p.m., St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Des Plaines will host an Easter egg hunt and Easter basket blessing.

All children are invited to hunt Easter eggs in our outdoor churchyard (or inside the church if it rains). Children will find the standard candies and chocolates inside the plastic eggs, but they'll also find some eggs with "Marty Money" - play money which the kids will get to deposit into three buckets representing different charities: The Buddy Foundation, Self-Help Food Pantry of Des Plaines and Aicardi Syndrome Foundation.

The church will then convert the play money into real money to make donations to the three organizations.

"We want to teach kids that Easter isn't just about receiving candy," said the Rev. M.E. Eccles, rector of St. Martin's, "it is also about hope and the Resurrection, as well as Jesus' message to love your neighbor as yourself. This charitable Easter egg hunt gives kids a way to do just that."

The eggs will be hidden throughout the grounds of St. Martin's, 1095 E. Thacker St., Des Plaines. Families are also invited to bring Easter food baskets for a traditional Polish blessing (in English).
