Girls soccer: Grayslake Central gets by Waukegan

Jordyn Gosell scored twice in the second half, each time assisted by Payton Gosell, as Grayslake Central's girls soccer team edged Waukegan 2-1 in a nonconference match Thursday.

The Rams trailed 1-0 at halftime.

"This was an extremely tough game with both teams displaying intelligent attacking and resolute defending throughout," Grayslake Central assistant coach Jamie Martin said. "We were disappointed to go behind as we created a number of chances, but failed to capitalize on them. At halftime, we discussed a few different tactical attacking options and moved players around to match up better in midfield and in our forward line. Our primary goals were to try and get behind the Waukegan back line faster than we did in the first half in order to create better quality chances."

The Rams' tying goal came from a dead-ball situation. The winning tally was thanks to "some great determination and finishing," Martin said.

Vernon Hills 2, Lakes 2: All the scoring in the North Suburban Prairie match came in the second half.

Vernon Hills got goals from Alex Ludolph and Julia Neary. Becky Bahlmann had an assist for the Cougars (3-1-1, 1-0-1).
