Chicago man sues city, police after murder charges dropped

CHICAGO (AP) - A Chicago man is suing the city and several police officers nearly a year after prosecutors dropped murder charges against him in the death of a 16-year-old.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports Tororicius Berry filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court accusing the city, nine police officers and two detectives of false arrest and malicious prosecution.

Berry was charged in the Aug. 16, 2017, shooting of 16-year-old Kejuan Thomas in a park on Chicago's South Side. Berry was held without bond until Sept. 8, when Cook County prosecutors dropped the charges against him.

Berry's lawsuit argues surveillance video showed he couldn't have committed the crime. Berry is claiming emotional distress and damage to his reputation because of his arrest.

Chicago authorities didn't immediately respond to a request Thursday for comment.
