2 dead when small plane crashes into western Indiana woods

ROCKVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say two people have died after a small plane crashed in western Indiana.

The Parke County Sheriff's Office says both occupants of the plane were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash Monday morning. Their names were not immediately released.

The National Transportation Safety Board says the single-engine Cessna 150 crashed on takeoff from Butler Airfield, a private airport about 2 miles south of Rockville. The plane crashed into a wooded area.

It wasn't immediately clear what caused the plane to crash.

Sheriff Justin Cole says the Federal Aviation Administration also is investigating the crash.

Rockville is about 60 miles west of Indianapolis.
