Benfica beats Sporting to take away league lead in Portugal
LISBON, Portugal (AP) - Benfica beat Sporting Lisbon 1-0 in a derby to snatch the lead of the Portuguese league from its city rival on Saturday.
Benfica striker Konstantinos Mitroglou scored what proved to be the winner in the 20th minute.
Sporting, which beat Benfica all five times they met this season across all competitions, finished with 10 men after Adrien Silva was sent off with three minutes left.
Defending champion Benfica moved two points ahead of Sporting, which fell into second place with nine rounds remaining after having led the league by seven points.
