Man struck, killed by train in Downers Grove

A 28-year-old man was struck and killed by a freight train early Friday morning in Downers Grove, authorities said.

Police said their preliminary investigation indicates the man walked onto the railroad tracks shortly after 2:30 a.m. in the area between the Main Street and Washington Street crossings and was hit by a westbound BNSF freight.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the victim's name is being withheld pending formal notification of family members. The investigation is ongoing.
