Children's Literature Breakfast set for Feb. 20
Some 600 children's book lovers, educators and authors will meet for a morning of literature and learning at Anderson's Bookshop's 14th annual Children's Literature Breakfast.
The gathering of authors and educators interested in the best and newest in children's literature will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at Bobak's Signature Events, 6440 Double Eagle Drive, Woodridge. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. The cost is $59, including breakfast. Tickets are required and available only at andersonschildrensbreakfast.brownpapertickets.com.
Attendees will have an opportunity to meet celebrated children's authors, plus dozens of Illinois authors and illustrators of children's books. Last year, there were more than 50 in attendance.
Featured this year are five keynote speakers:
• Chris Grabenstein, author of the new middle grade title, “Mr. Lemoncello's Library Olympics.” The new book is a fun sequel to The New York Times best-selling and award-winning “Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library.” Teams of boys and girls across America compete in the first Library Olympics.
• Barney Saltzberg is author of many children's books that celebrate creativity and art, including “A Little Bit of Oomph,” demonstrating that oomph is the boost that takes things from ordinary to extraordinary.
• Sara Pennypacker's new book is “Pax,” about the powerful friendship between a boy and his pet fox. They are separated, and quickly strive to be reunited despite the danger.
• Lauren Tarshis brings her new book in her historical best-selling I Survived series of books for young readers. New is No. 13, “I Survived the Hindenburg Disaster, 1937.”
• Loren Long is the author of last fall's “Little Tree,” a tender story about seasons and about bravely facing change.
Participants will learn about new award-winning and notable children's books, have an opportunity to participate in a book talk with Anderson's Bookshops children's experts, and have a chance to win raffle prizes, free giveaways and to earn CPDU credits. Books will be on sale at the event as well.
Reservations are available until Monday, Feb. 15. For questions, call (630) 820-2802 or visit andersonsbookshop.com.
