Eyesore hotel along I-65 to be demolished after long fight

BATTLE GROUND, Ind. (AP) - A judge has cleared the way for demolition of an abandoned hotel that's long been an eyesore along a stretch of Interstate 65 in northwestern Indiana.

A Tippecanoe County judge approved an agreement Wednesday that puts the former Holiday Inn and Days Inn into the hands of a receiver who's expected to demolish the building. The current owner, Wisconsin-based MGM Plaza, has 90 days to find financing for the demolition.

The hotel opened in 1972 but it's been vacant since 2003, and the town of Battle Ground has been battling with various owners over the property for a decade.

MGM Plaza attorney Ryan Munden tells The Journal & Courier that Battle Ground officials are willing to preserve the hotel's foundation following demolition.
