Local students compete in Automotive Skills Contest
The Waubonsee Community College Automotive Department recently hosted the ninth annual Waubonsee/VALEES Automotive Skills Contest.
For this contest, Waubonsee instructors set up a variety of real world automotive stations to test students' knowledge and ability to diagnose and repair complex automotive problems.
Five local high school and career center programs competed for the Waubonsee Skills Traveling Trophy.
During the three-hour competition, each school's team of five students took on a variety of different tasks at each test station, and were measured on their diagnostic process and ability to properly diagnose the vehicle.
Judges at each station assigned point values for each step taken.
This year - for the second year in a row - Fox Valley Career Center's team were the champions. They were led by instructors Paul Potvin and Clay Hansen.
Oswego High School, Oswego East High School, East Aurora High School, and Indian Valley Vocational Center were the other competitors.
