Sterling police chief retires, public send-off is planned
STERLING, Ill. (AP) - The police chief of Sterling is retiring after about two decades in the post.
Sauk Valley Media reports (http://bit.ly/1ZwH3AV ) Chief Ron Potthoff's last day is Tuesday. City officials say there'll be an open house and send-off in the afternoon.
Potthoff has been a Sterling police officer for more than 40 years and became chief of police in 1996.
Lieutenant Tim Morgan will be interim chief. He's a 22 year veteran police officer.
