Autopsy Saturday for man pulled from Bensenville pond; no ID released yet

The DuPage County coroner's office performed an autopsy Saturday on the body pulled from the Redmond Reservoir Friday.

Police are not releasing the name of the man, a spokesman for the village said, until they learn more information.

He slipped in to the pond around 3:07 p.m., Bensenville Police Chief Dan Schulze said Friday. A witness called police. The body was recovered about 20 to 30 feet from shore, according to Bensenville Fire Protection District Lt. Rick Waychoff.

The stormwater retention pond is in the Redmond Recreational Center, a large village-owned park at 545 John St. The village declined Saturday to say how deep the water is. Waychoff said rescuers could not stand in the pond.

It is not designated for swimming, police said Friday. But it does have two spots designated for fishing, according to the village's webpage about the park. There is a path around it.
