Vanderbilt hires Osia Lewis as senior defensive assistant
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Vanderbilt has hired Osia Lewis as a senior defensive assistant who will work with the Commodores' outside linebackers.
Lewis had been San Diego State's defensive line coach the last five years. He was part of a staff that helped San Diego State lead the nation in turnover margin and rank fifth nationally in total defense, seventh in scoring defense and seventh in run defense last season.
Lewis previously has been a defensive coordinator at New Mexico (2003-07) and UTEP (2008-09). He also was an assistant at Oregon State from 1991-96 and at Illinois from 1997-2002.
In a school release Wednesday announcing the hire, Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason called Lewis "a perfect fit for our staff."
