Baseball: Donahue delivers as Grayslake North rolls

Visiting Grayslake North scored early and often, then finished up by plating 4 runs in the seventh inning to top Grant 16-7 on Monday in Northern Lake County Conference baseball.

Leadoff man Jason Donahue supplied much of the thunder for Grayslake North (10-10-1, 6-4). The sophomore hit a solo homer to start the game, then came up with a grand slam in the third inning and finished 4-for-4 with 5 RBI.

Sebastian Sancen was 2-for-3 and drove in 2 runs as Grayslake North finished with 13 hits, including a pair of homers and a double, and took advantage of 7 errors by Grant (16-5, 7-3).

Carlos Martinez finished 3-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI for the Bulldogs.

Antioch 16, Round Lake 2 (5 inn.): The host Sequoits produced 11 hits and drew 8 walks for a winner in NLCC play.

Wyatt Hill had 2 hits for Round Lake (3-18), and Lennard Pureza had a double.

Grayslake Central 8, Vernon Hills 6: The visiting Rams built a nice lead and ended up needing it as the Cougars rallied for 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in a nonconference matchup.

Eric Sturm left after 5 innings with a 6-1 lead and earned the victory for Grayslake Central (18-2).

Daniel Guckenberger finished 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI for the Rams. Max Snowden tripled and drove in 2 runs, and Joey Webster had a pair of hits and scored twice.

For Vernon Hills, Ethan Bowers had 2 hits, Kyle Fasbinder had a double and Jack Barsczc and Danny Wizceb each drove in 2 runs.

Warren 9, Waukegan 2: Blue Devils starter Reece Lawler allowed a pair of unearned runs and struck out seven over 4 innings to earn the victory, and a pair of Warren relievers supplied scoreless stints in NSC play.

Mike Kocen and Sam Deluca drove in 2 runs apiece and Bradley Vondruska had a walk a double as Warren (13-8, 6-7) took advantage of 5 Bulldogs errors.

Stevenson 7, Lake Zurich 0: Matthew Mittelmark was dominant on the mound for the host Patriots, striking out seven and allowing 2 hits and no walks as Stevenson won in the NSC.

The Patriots (12-10-1, 7-6) got a double and 2 RBI from Caleb Evans and a triple and 2 RBI from Evan Kiah. Jack Housinger went 3-for-4 and scored twice, and Ryan McElhinny had a pair of hits.
