Please donate to your local conservancy group
While COVID-19 and societal problems have captured the media's eye in 2020, let's not forget about our environmental situation that is on the back burner.
The past year has been another record-breaker for high temperatures and billion-dollar disasters for the United States.
We, as a country, may have our hands full with the economy and a pandemic, yet forests around the globe are still being harvested at greater-than-sustainable levels and carbon emissions continue to increase.
At this time of the year, many environmental nonprofits match the funds that are donated by in order to conserve biodiversity as well as forest and ocean resources.
The Friends of the Fox River is one local organization that raises awareness among the general public and school groups.
Another option is the Friends of Moraine Hills State Park, which is always looking for volunteers, too. Or, as my family has done, volunteer your time for the Lake County Adopt-A-Road program.
Please consider the enjoyment you get from the trees, nature preserves and waterways as well as wildlife and make a donation of time or money before the end of the year.
